you said the waves are part of me the way they part the seas pumping vessels to the heart of the inlet if love was just some current I've felt it pull me in but I've also felt it let me out again again but I'm the salt and you're the sea dissolving into everything cut from stone to coat what makes me clean and i've felt you underneath rising up to meet me will we break before we ever truly see that are we just part of everything? you said, then time will show the way the cracking in his hands tells the future when they're held up to his face and somehow either way there's a space that holds a distance so close but still so far away away but I'm the salt and you're the sea dissolving into everything cut from stone to coat what makes me clean and I felt you underneath rising up to meet me will we break before we ever truly see that are we just part of everything but I'm the salt and you're the sea dissolving into everything cut from stone to coat what makes me clean and I felt you underneath rising up to claim me like some treasure long forgotten in the deep but are we just part of everything

they say the cure for anything is the sea, salt water, or tears but I've only felt the sting they say that time heals everything but it always leaves a scar like a cold cup coffee ring, ring so I set out on the lake tried to cast out my past mistakes but they'll come back, just you wait you're all washed up, thought I heard 'em say and if I ever get out of this country's interior i guess I'll still be working on the lake superior blues so I made that journey back took that map, folded it in half and all those outlines, traced in black well they looked like lungs or a photograph and if I ever make it out of this country's interior i guess I'll still be working out the lake superior blues don't try to walk on water babe, you've gotta swim- just move those legs and I won't be no shipwrecked bay i'm just the wind- getting carried away and if I ever make it out of this country's interior i guess I'll still be working on the lake superior blues

River 04:51
when I knelt beside the stream it reflected back at me for a moment there I swore that I saw you but the image it gets caught between what's real and what is not like a sailor's tale and what we hold as true when I started looking back I only saw my tracks the way i think I thought I always knew but the trees they drink the lakes the air evaporates it's a cycle all in all becomes renewed and I looked out for you then in the trees above the wind i waited for your form to come in view but the past it has no shape some ghost of the great lakes in time we all return to what we knew and my veins became a river my blood i felt the stream pouring through my eyes and falling to my feet and I know this is not the answer i know that there'll never be all there is is ever was and all that's supposed to be but somewhere, I swear like a river I'll be running back to you through the air, and the clouds somehow everything it leads me back to you when i knelt beside the stream it reflected back at me for a moment there I swore that I saw you
